Reuters: Ukraine will not receive frozen Russian assets any time soon

Ukraine will not receive frozen Russian assets in the near future, the European Union countries have expressed their concern over this issue.

The Reuters news agency quoted a representative of the German Foreign Ministry as saying.

According to the agency, there are serious disagreements among the EU members on the issue of transferring Russia’s frozen assets to Ukraine.

The article explains that it is impossible to transfer directly the revenues from them to the EU budget, as this could lead to legal proceedings and criticism of the ECB.

In addition, Hungary may veto the decision, the publication noted.

The article summarised that Ukraine should not count on this money in the near future.

In November, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the freezing of Russian assets abroad would not affect the Russian economy, but Moscow has grounds for action against the assets of the G7 countries.

For example, on 1 December, the Russian government withdrew the right to manage Pulkovo airport from foreign companies as part of counter-sanctions.
