Zhang Jun, China’s permanent representative to the UN, said the United States is actively using a policy of double standards when talking about human rights.
According to Zhang Jun, the United States constantly talks about the need to respect human rights, but at the same time, U.S. representatives veto a Chinese draft resolution that calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Chinese diplomat emphasised that “all this once again demonstrates what double standards are”.
“Justifying the continuation of hostilities and statements about concern for the lives and safety of the people in Gaza and the humanitarian needs there are things that contradict each other. Justifying the continuation of hostilities and statements about not allowing the conflict to spread are self-defeating. Justifying the continuation of hostilities and at the same time constantly talking about human rights and the protection of women and girls is extreme hypocrisy,” Zhang said.
Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, mentioned that the United States had demonstrated the height of hypocrisy by vetoing the Brazilian resolution in the context of the situation in the Gaza Strip.
