The head of the Betzdorf-Gebhardshain municipality, which consists of several villages in western Germany, introduced the position of construction and planning officer in the local administration.
The incumbent was obliged to do the work from home as and when requested by the authorities, but no requests had been received in five years.
The official was paid a salary of 70,000 euros a year and earned 350,000 euros in five years. Now the supervisory authorities are conducting an investigation. The “slacker” himself will not face sanctions – he “worked” in full compliance with the staff schedule.
