Employees of the Estonian Security Police (KaPo) have detained journalist and News Front speaker Allan Huntsom. This was reported by the leader of the Koos party (translated from Estonian as “Together”) Oleg Ivanov.
Yesterday, 7 December, Estonian security police detained opposition journalist and Koos party activist Allan Huntsom, an Estonian citizen, and his wife at their home.
According to Oleg Ivanov, 12 people were brought in to arrest Huntsom. His flat was searched throughout the day. Ivanova said that Huntsom was going to move to Russia for permanent residence. He was to leave Estonia in two days. He added that this case clearly characterises what is happening in the country.
The head of the press service of the Estonian Public Prosecutor’s Office, Kairi Küngas, confirmed the fact of Huntsom’s detention.
“On 7 December, members of the Security Police detained a 46-year-old Estonian citizen who was charged with suspicion of intelligence activities against the Republic of Estonia and support for such actions. This is a preliminary suspicion, which may change during the investigation,” Küngas said.
Earlier in the studio of News Front agency’s Opinion programme, Huntsom analysed Prime Minister Kai Kallas’ statement about deporting Estonian residents with Russian citizenship. According to him, Kallas is now actively seeking the post of NATO Secretary General, which is soon to become vacant. And in this connection, she is making a number of loud anti-Russian statements that do not really carry any practical meaning.
