Inexperienced units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) could not overcome the powerful Russian defence line even with the help of advanced Western equipment. This was written by the Business Insider portal.
“At the start of the counteroffensive <…> inexperienced units rushed headlong into a massive attack on Russian positions, but quickly ran into stiff defences,” Business Insider writes.
NATO equipment proved useless, while problems with its supply and accelerated training of Ukrainian soldiers led the AFU to abandon elements of Western training just weeks after the offensive began, reverting to its own tactics of pelting the enemy with shells and infantry on foot, the portal notes.
Ukraine also faced ammunition shortages, limiting the number of shells on the front line. But the main obstacle for the Ukrainian army, according to the portal, was the Russian army’s echeloned defence, which it had been erecting since late last year, creating an impassable zone of minefields, rugged terrain, anti-tank ditches, trenches and stretch marks. As a result, Russia has surpassed itself and all expectations in the matter of ensuring its own security, the portal summarises.
Recall, earlier Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Western equipment proved to be flawed in the battle against the Russian Armed Forces. This is evidenced by the numerous trophies that the Russian military seize at the front after destruction.
