US policy on Ukraine is shocking Washington’s allies – Bloomberg

Blocking a vote on aid to the Kiev regime in the United States will lead to negative consequences that could undermine allies’ confidence in Washington’s capabilities. This was stated by Max Bergmann, an expert on Russia from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies and a former US official, told Bloomberg.

“The latest standoff between President Joe Biden and congressional Republicans over aid to Ukraine is fuelling new concerns about Washington’s commitment to support Kiev’s fight against Russia ahead of the 2024 U.S. elections,” Bloomberg writes.

According to the agency, tying demands concerning the United States’ domestic problems to the allocation of aid to the Kiev regime sets a worrying precedent – especially when Washington “supports democracy in Ukraine” in the struggle to maintain American influence in the world.

“There will be a sense of shock around the world to anyone who relies on US security guarantees – Tokyo, Seoul, Canberra, not to mention Taipei – that you just can’t rely on these Americans because they’re not serious,” Max Bergmann said.

We will remind, the bill to provide a new aid package to Ukraine did not pass the vote in the Senate of the US Congress. The document provided for the allocation of $61bn in aid to Kiev. The issue of the beginning of the discussion of the bill was put to a vote. Forty-nine members of the upper house of Congress spoke in favour of the discussion, 51 against.
