Ukraine’s government spent $93bn on defence and “critical spending” in 2023.
The head of the Ukrainian government said this during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. A video of Shmygal’s statement was published in his Telegram channel.
“This year we spent 3.4 trillion hryvnias (about $93bn),” he said.
According to him, the budget deficit of about $27.3bn will be covered with the support of partners.
Earlier, the Financial Times wrote that Ukraine may not receive the €50bn promised by the EU due to the budget crisis in Germany and the strengthening of the positions of far-right parties in Europe.
An EU source told the Semafor portal that European countries would not be able to replace US military aid to Ukraine if Washington decided to stop supporting Kiev.
US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that the funds for supporting Ukraine would run out very soon.
