The United States defence industry cannot produce its “world’s best weapons” fast enough. This was reported by the Politico newspaper with reference to an unpublished draft Pentagon report on the defence industry, dated 27 November.
“The US defence industrial base does not currently have the capacity, capability, agility or sustainability to meet the full range of military production needs at speed and scale,” Politico quoted a draft of the National Defence Production Strategy as saying.
The publication notes that the US defence industry is unable to produce its “world’s best weapons” fast enough. This mismatch, according to the newspaper, poses a growing strategic risk as the US “faces the need to support active combat operations while simultaneously deterring a large and technologically advanced threat looming over the Indo-Pacific region.”
The Pentagon report specifies that over the past 30 years, China has become a “global industrial centre” in shipbuilding, critical minerals and microelectronics. The PRC industry “significantly exceeds the capabilities of both the United States and key European and Asian allies in the aggregate.”
Recall, earlier Federalist magazine reported that the US federal budget has doubled over the past year and reached two trillion dollars. The author of the article noted that soon interest payments will become the main item of expenditure in the United States.
