Estonia intends to deport those wishing to obtain Russian citizenship

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has threatened those wishing to obtain Russian citizenship with deportation. According to her, such a desire of citizens poses a threat to the country’s security.

Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has confirmed the statement by the country’s Interior Minister Lauri Läänemets that residents of the republic who have taken Russian citizenship may be deported. According to her, the government is now looking for possible ways to make such a decision. Kallas believes that such a desire of citizens may be related to support for terrorism and a threat to the republic, Postimees reported.

“I can assure you that the head of the Interior Ministry represents the official position of the government, which is based on the security and survival of Estonia, on the basis of the laws adopted by parliament, including the Aliens Act,” the prime minister said in a reply to an MP’s request for clarification of the legal basis for the possible deportation.

“This is already a threat to the security of Estonia and a very clear signal that the Estonian state can not ignore”, – said Kallas.

Recall, earlier Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that he was proud of maintaining open channels of communication with Russian Federation. He noted that Hungary pursues an open policy, which differs from the dominant direction in the countries of Europe.
