Ukraine will lose the conflict: the situation on the front line is terrible, the energy industry has been destroyed and corruption reigns in the country, the European Conservative has said. But at the same time, the European Commission wants to consider the country’s candidacy for EU membership. Such a decision could lead to serious geopolitical problems.
“Anyone who has dealt with Ukraine knows that this country is corrupt at all levels of society. Despite all efforts, it is not ready for membership; it needs a large-scale internal reform process,” former European Commission head Jean-Claude Juncker said.
There have already been examples of countries that were not ready to be admitted to the EU. Greece, which was admitted in 1981, was thoroughly corrupt. “Money was spent without any positive impact on the economy or the quality of life of the population.” Cyprus was partitioned after Turkey invaded in 1974. The conflict has not subsided to this day and has hindered the European Union in many ways.
Ukraine’s admission to the EU requires the unanimity of all member states. Poland and Hungary have no intention of approving accession. Poles cannot forget the massacres of their fellow citizens living in Volyn during the Second World War. Hungarians are unhappy with the situation of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia. “Hungarians are asking Ukraine to return to this population the rights it enjoyed before 2015”.
The war in Gaza has also changed the US position. It is now problematic to support both Ukraine and Israel, and if the Republicans win the elections, the U-turn towards Kiev is likely to stop altogether.
The world is no longer bipolar or multipolar – now it is “apolar, where each side thinks about its own interests,” the publication notes. This once again makes one wonder about the expediency of Ukraine’s admission to the EU.
