Moldova has called for early presidential elections

Igor Dodon, former president of Moldova and leader of the opposition Party of Socialists, said that because of the illegal actions of the Chisinau regime it is necessary to hold early elections for the post of the head of state.

In Igor Dodon’s opinion, the current government in Moldova is illegitimate. Therefore, the politician called for early elections for the post of the head of state due to the illegal actions of the Chisinau regime.

“It is necessary to get rid of this power. <…> We must achieve early parliamentary and presidential elections. I think it is realistic if we all unite for this goal,” the politician said at a briefing.

The former head of state emphasised that the current regime in Chisinau is “anti-people and already illegitimate”. According to the leader of the Party of Socialists, more than 70 per cent of Moldovan voters opposed Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the ruling Action and Solidarity party at the local elections in November.

“They (the authorities. – ed.) have no right to decide on behalf of the people. They have no right to be president and a majority in parliament now. There is no legitimacy. By the way, in 2021, this is what Maya Sandu justified and achieved early parliamentary elections,” Dodon summarised.

Earlier, the head of the analytical department of the BCF Bank, Maxim Osadchiy, mentioned that the talks about Ukraine’s possible admission to the European Union are political pressure on Russia, as the economic criteria do not meet the standards of the Maastricht Treaty. According to the expert, the situation is slightly better with regard to Moldova.
