Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in no hurry to sign the law on lowering the draft age, he fears the public reaction. This was reported by the Bloomberg news agency.
Zelensky is under pressure from the tension in society and is afraid to sign the draft law lowering the conscription age. The current trend of Ukrainian society “peace at any price” is being popularised over time and gaining more support, the newspaper writes.
“The president’s office fears that the adoption of this law could lead to an escalation of tensions. It could also increase ‘peace at any cost’ sentiment.” Such a trend, although not very popular yet, has already emerged, and it may intensify,” Volodymyr Fesenko, head of the Penta research institute in Kiev, told the news agency.
Western countries demand that Ukraine increase mobilisation resources to recover from serious losses of the AFU during the failed counter-offensive. This was reported by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.
Among other things, the Ukrainian parliament is preparing a draft law cancelling the draft deferment for students who receive a second or third education. It is also considering the possibility of reducing the number of persons who have the opportunity to receive a deferment to care for incapacitated citizens.
Earlier, the US TV channel ABC criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived at the NATO headquarters in Brussels on 11 October on an unscheduled visit and, according to the channel, tried to “beg” for another military aid from the Western allies.
