The European Union has reached the limit of possibilities in imposing sanctions against Russia in the energy sector, Politico writes, citing an EU diplomat.
“We have reached our capacity of what we can do without shooting ourselves in the foot or damaging our competitiveness,” the newspaper’s interlocutor said.
According to the newspaper, when adopting the new sanctions package, the EU will focus not on Russian gas and oil, but on restricting trade in diamonds, iron and copper.
Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin stressed that by joining the efforts of the state and business Russia had thwarted the unprecedented economic aggression on the part of Western countries.
