European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen says Ukraine has fulfilled almost all the European Union’s requirements needed to launch talks on the country’s accession to the union.
The words of the European official are quoted by the newspaper Politico.
“They have fulfilled all the necessary requirements for almost all the seven steps we asked them to take,” von der Leyen said.
On 8 November, the European Commission recommended that the EU Council start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on these countries’ accession to the EU if a number of conditions are met.
Dutch MEP Marcel de Graaf from the Forum for Democracy party criticized the European Commission’s recommendation to start a dialogue on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
