Politico: The Senate is close to voting on Biden’s Ukraine request

Representatives of the US Democratic Party plan to hold a vote on the allocation of financial aid to Ukraine next week, but members of the Republican Party will resist this issue. This was reported by the Politico newspaper.

Politico noted that Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer plans to hold a vote on US President Joe Biden’s request for billions of dollars in aid to Ukraine and Israel as early as 4 December. According to the newspaper, the Democrat is thus trying to create “some urgency” amid tough negotiations.

“The announcement of the vote in the first week of December puts pressure on lawmakers to work out an agreement on border security that can be combined with aid to US allies,” the publication says.

The piece emphasises that Republicans in the Senate are pushing for border security policy changes as part of any additional spending bill. According to the newspaper, such a deal will be able to gain the support of the majority of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives, unwilling to support the Kiev regime.

Schumer called the border requirement the “biggest obstacle” to new funding to support the Kiev regime and Israel. The Democratic leader said his 51-member panel is “ready to work on reasonable solutions to fix the immigration problem.” However, the politician warned that if the Republican Party took too hard a stance, it could “jeopardise the entire” supplemental bill.

“There are almost certainly 60 votes in favour of sending tens of billions more dollars to Ukraine, but Republicans have warned they won’t do it without a border agreement,” Politico concluded.

We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the heated conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
