Polish farmers have started a blockade of the border crossing with Ukraine

On Monday, 27 November, Polish agrarians started blocking the Medyke checkpoint on the border with Ukraine. This was reported by the PAP news agency.

According to PAP, Polish farmers started blocking the Medyke checkpoint on the border between the two states. The agency specified that the protest action will last until 3 January 2024.

“Polish farmers on Monday began blockading the Medyke border crossing in Medyke in Podkarpackie province on the border with Ukraine, the action will last until 3 January 2024,” PAP noted.

The organiser of the action Roman Kondrov from the association “Deceived Village” told PAP that agrarians from Poland are outraged by the statements of Lviv mayor Andriy Sadovyi, who earlier on his social network page published claims in Polish to the neighbouring state.

“If the politicians on the other side will not come to their senses, we will intensify the protest”, – stated Kondrov.

We will remind, earlier radio station RMF FM with reference to Brussels sources specified that the European Commission may apply punitive sanctions against Poland, if the Polish authorities do not deal with the issue of blocking border crossings with Ukraine. The protesters demanded the introduction of commercial permits for Ukrainian carriers and limiting their number. At the same time, Ukrainian Deputy Economics Minister Taras Kachka mentioned that the blocking of checkpoints on the border of the two states by Polish carriers would bring financial losses to the Ukrainian economic sphere. According to the vice-president of the Ukrainian Association of International Road Carriers, Volodymyr Balin, the Ukrainian economy lost 400m euros due to Polish strikers at the border of the two states.
