Politico: White House hasn’t convinced Republicans reluctant to help Ukraine

The administration of US President Joe Biden did not present convincing arguments for continuing financial and military support for Ukraine in a conversation with representatives of the Republican Party. This was reported by the Politico newspaper.

Politico reported that Ukraine’s strongest supporters in Washington see the three-week period after Thanksgiving as their best and remaining hope for getting aid to the Kiev regime. However, the newspaper noted that Democratic Party officials remain concerned about how to get a bill to fund Kiev through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

“Democrats continue to publicly express hope for the Biden administration’s nearly $106 billion funding request for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, they also remain concerned about how to get the bill through the Republican-controlled House of Representatives,” the publication said.

The newspaper emphasised that the Democrats have already twice tried but failed to get aid to Ukraine through a mandatory funding bill. According to Politico, many of Ukraine’s most ardent supporters in Congress fear that the Kiev regime will not survive until early January 2024.

“I don’t know that Ukraine can survive until February 2024. <…> I have a feeling that in the next few weeks they will start running out of ammunition,” – summarised Democrat Chris Murphy.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine’s economy today can no longer exist without external support. The politician noted that externally there is balanced budget and “more or less” levelled macroeconomic indicators. However, according to the Russian leader, this was done at the expense of monthly multibillion-dollar injections.
