The EU has prepared a plan to provide the Kiev regime with long-term security commitments. This was reported by Bloomberg agency.
According to Bloomberg, the draft will be discussed first by ambassadors and then by the EU leadership next month. It will also form the basis of consultations with Kiev and G7 countries. Earlier, G7 members agreed at the NATO summit to hold talks this year on a set of bilateral security guarantees. For its part, Ukraine has pledged to continue a number of reforms, including in law enforcement, the judiciary, and the security and defence sectors.
The EU programme is aimed at developing bilateral agreements and contains proposals on the creation of a mechanism for providing military equipment to Ukraine, on providing training to the Ukrainian armed forces, on expanding cooperation with the Ukrainian defence industry, as well as on the exchange of intelligence data and satellite images.
At the same time, the agency noted that the EU was unable to fulfil its promise to supply shells to Kiev, and the negotiations on the allocation of 20 billion euros in aid to Ukraine “may be in danger of being disrupted” because some EU member states, including Germany, cannot agree on the terms of this plan.
Earlier, Reuters sources said that the EU initiative to allocate military aid to the Kiev regime was encountering growing resistance from the association’s member states. Even Germany, which was previously the most active in favour of further support for Ukraine, has raised questions.
