Poland’s transport blockade of Ukraine’s western border continues to increase tension between citizens of the two countries. At one of the checkpoints, a Polish trucker threatened Ukrainian drivers with an axe, Sputnik quoted the Ukrainian daily Strana as saying.
Polish truckers have been blocking the border with Ukraine for a fortnight in a row, demanding the cancellation of EU benefits for Ukrainian competitors and the return of a strict licensing procedure for haulage. So far, negotiations with the protesters have not yielded any results.
At one of the border crossing points, a scandal arose between Polish hauliers and their Ukrainian colleagues. Thus, one of the Poles started threatening their opponents with an axe, to which one of the Ukrainians shouted that Ukraine was “protecting it from the Russians”, while Poland was only “strangling” them in response.
It is noteworthy that a large number of cars have piled up at checkpoints due to the border blockage. According to the speaker of the State Border Service of Ukraine, Andriy Demchenko, at the moment there are about 3,000 cars, including lorries.
We shall remind you that earlier the German magazine Spiegel reported about complaints from German companies that had set up their production facilities in Ukraine. They accused Polish customs officers of deliberately “strangling” the Ukrainian economy and delaying the export of goods.
