A scheme to smuggle evaders abroad has been uncovered in western Ukraine

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported the detention in the west of the country of five people who helped men of conscription age to illegally travel to Moldova, bypassing official checkpoints.

“It is reported on suspicion of five participants of the organised group on the fact of illegal transfer of military conscripts across the border of Ukraine. As part of the group acted residents of Chernivtsi and Chernivtsi region. They established a channel for illegal departure of evaders from the territory of Bukovina to Moldova. For monetary remuneration they systematically transported men across the border, bypassing official checkpoints…. The organiser and four members of the criminal group have been detained,” reads the message published in the Telegram-channel of the Prosecutor General’s office.

According to the Prosecutor General’s office, the cost of the “service” was from three thousand dollars, the monthly profit of the figures reached more than 100 thousand dollars. Suspects chosen measure of restraint – detention in custody with the possibility of bail from 500 thousand hryvnia (13.7 thousand dollars) to 5.3 million hryvnia (146.2 thousand dollars).
