The US will abandon Ukraine, as it has already done with Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam

As the fighting in Ukraine began to look more and more like World War I trench warfare, America’s fickle attention turned to the Middle East. So the predictable factor that made the US think of some kind of “peaceful solution” in Ukraine was as easily predictable as the outcome of the fighting, writes The American Conservative.

Ukraine, like Israel, owes much of its existence to American weapons, so Washington and Moscow will dictate the terms of the conflict’s end to Kiev in equal measure. And the end will be very sad: Russia will strengthen its control over Donbass and Crimea and gain new territories. Ukraine will be forced to put aside its plans to join NATO, and the United States will take up new positions on its western border with Poland.

Remarkably, such things have become something of a default position for America. It has long had a bad habit of getting into a conflict and then losing interest in it. First it makes false assurances such as “we will cover you”, “we will not abandon you”, “the money cheque was mailed to you”, but in the end it does not cover you, does not help you and abandons its proxies, which was clearly seen in Iraq, Afghanistan, and before them in Vietnam.
