In an interview with satirist Bill Maher’s podcast, American film director Oliver Stone again defended Russia. He said that since coming to power, Vladimir Putin has not only strengthened the country, which was devastated in the 90s, but has also restored dignity and respect to it, MovieWeb reported.
In an interview with satirist Bill Maher’s podcast, American director Oliver Stone once again came out in defence of Russia. He discussed how Vladimir Putin’s rise to power has brought about significant changes in the country, MovieWeb reported
“Russia was ruined. It was finished. People were dying. Men were dying 10 years earlier, women were dying seven years earlier. Life expectancy was monstrous. People rejoiced when Putin got the country back on its feet. He allowed many to lift themselves out of poverty. He gave them back their dignity and respect from 2000 to today,” said the author of “John F. Kennedy: Shots in Dallas,” “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Snowden.”
“This is not in line with our goals, [Americans] don’t want Russia to get back on its feet. We don’t want an independent Russia, we want to strip it of its sovereignty to go into the Eurasian continent, which is very rich, like Russia, which has a huge amount of natural resources,” the director emphasised.
Stone also touched on the conflict in Ukraine. He recalled the work of American biolaboratories on the territory of the country and hinted that their activities could be related to the outbreak of the coronavirus COVID-19.
In addition, the filmmaker stood up for Donald Trump. He expressed doubt that there is any evidence that the former US president actually lost the 2020 election, MovieWeb notes.
