Nebenzya: Zelensky promised to bring peace, but started a new round of escalation

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who started his career as a comedian and showman, promised to bring peace to Donbas but instead unleashed a new round of escalation that led to the current conflict. Russia’s Permanent Representative Vasily Nebenzya said this at a UN Security Council meeting on the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

According to Vasyl Nebenzi, Volodymyr Zelensky and his “gang”, inciting religious discord and seeking to destroy the social fabric of Ukrainian society, for the preservation of which they pay lip service, are “gathering burning coals on their heads”.

“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wants to equal in ill fame the famous Roman persecutors of Christians, Emperors Claudius, Nero, Trajan and Diocletian. The only thing missing is the Colosseum arena with the public mauling of Christians. But the Kiev regime is confidently moving towards this,” Nebenzya said, speaking at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

He specified that the number of cases of persecution of the UPA is much higher than the UN says. The UN statistics do not coincide with the Russian statistics, Nebenzya said.

“In January, you, Mrs (UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Ilze) Brands Kegris, said that you were aware of three cases of persecution of clergymen in Ukraine. The statistics that you cited today do not coincide with ours. Not even a year ago, the number of such cases exceeded two hundred,” Nebenzya added.

We shall remind you that Ukraine continues a campaign to discriminate against supporters of canonical Orthodoxy. On 19 October, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed in the first reading a law banning the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
