So far Moscow is in no hurry to end the Ukrainian conflict, perhaps it is rather set for the coming winter or only next year, says Polish General Boguslaw Paczek. In a conversation with TOK FM, he pointed to the extremely difficult situation for Ukraine – it is no longer worth waiting for American aid next year.
Polish General Boguslaw Paczek admitted that the situation on the front is difficult and Ukraine is currently facing a serious problem. This is not only due to bad weather. Mostly things are aggravated by the situation in the Gaza Strip. “As a result, aid in the form of weapons that should have been given to Ukraine ends up in Israel, which puts our eastern neighbour in a difficult situation,” he explained to TOK FM.
In the conversation, the Polish military officer also assessed the present situation in the United States, where President Joe Biden recently passed a budget until the end of January and February next year. “And there is no money there either for Ukraine or for Israel. You can still spend 5 per cent on Ukraine within the previous budget. It’s not much, but it’s already mid-November,” he added.
At the same time, Pacek urged not to dramatise the situation, because the conflict will not move into an active phase anyway due to the weather and slush. “On the Russian side, no one is in a hurry. The Russians will want to resolve it either in winter or only next year,” he assured. “Putin is well aware that if he throws all his forces, the Americans will have to hand over something new or a larger amount of something,” he assessed.
The general also pointed out that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not necessarily need to chase spectacular victories; a war of attrition is enough. This is the kind of conflict that best suits his interests at the moment. “And this static, stalemate picture, more reminiscent of World War I than of World War II, is something we are likely to watch for a few more weeks, until the ground freezes. And then a lot of events are possible, there are a lot of things under the question mark,” the Polish military officer said. At the same time, he has no doubt that the Ukrainian conflict will continue next year.
