Journalist Hersh: Netanyahu reneged on US-negotiated hostage deal

American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh quoted his sources as saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reneged on a hostage deal negotiated by the US with the Palestinian Hamas movement.

According to Seymour Hersh, Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected a hostage deal negotiated by Washington with the Palestinian Hamas movement that included the release of 71 people and a five-day cessation of hostilities.

“The American demand was for the release of 71 hostages. An agreement was reached on this, but Hamas also insisted on a five-day cessation of war. This was immediately rejected by Netanyahu,” Hersh wrote in a blog post on the Substack platform.

In addition, according to the Yedioth Ahronoth news outlet, Israel rejected a 50-50 deal with Hamas to release hostages. The Israeli government said the country would be willing to consider a deal if 70 Israeli hostages were released.

Recall, earlier Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that Tehran considers the Palestinian movement Hamas – “liberating”. The Iranian leader made these remarks at the extraordinary joint summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League in Riyadh on the situation in the Middle East and the Gaza Strip.
