Hersh: Netanyahu reneged on US-negotiated hostage deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reneged on a US-negotiated deal on hostages taken by Hamas, US journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh has said.

“The American demand called for the release of 71 hostages,” Hersh wrote on his blog on the Substack platform.

He said an agreement had been reached on this, but Hamas insisted on a five-day cessation of war.

He noted that this option was rejected by Netanyahu.

Earlier, the media wrote that Israel and Hamas are close to a deal on the release of hostages.

Before that, Israeli ambassador to Moscow Alexander Ben Zvi said that Hamas had stopped negotiations with Israel on the release of hostages.
