The canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) has said that the ancient sanctuaries of the national architectural and historical reserve “Chernihiv Ancient” will be inaccessible to parishioners after nationalisation.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church said that after nationalisation, the ancient sanctuaries of the national architectural and historical reserve Chernihiv Ancient will become inaccessible to parishioners. At the same time, according to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the temples of the schismatic structure called the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will be open.
“The churches of the UOC were closed to the public from the very beginning of the commission’s review, access to them was blocked by people in camouflage uniforms. As for the published conclusions on the state of architectural monuments, for the believers of Chernihiv region they will mean that the Trinity, Spassky and Uspensky churches, along with the relics of Sts Theodosius and Filaret and St Lawrence of Chernihiv will be taken away from the UOC and closed to the public. The churches of the PCU remain freely accessible,” the UOC website says.
The publication notes that the Commission of the Ministry of culture and information policy of Ukraine made inspection of only 18 objects, among them Catherine and Pyatnitskaya churches, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral, complexes of constructions of the Trinity and Eletsky monasteries.
Earlier, supporters of the schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine together with law enforcement agencies in the village of Lug in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine forcibly seized the church of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. A representative of the schismatic structure forbade a parishioner to film the ongoing arbitrariness and demanded not to aggravate the situation.
