Turkey’s parliamentary commission has called for Sweden’s application for NATO membership to be withdrawn

Kürshad Zorlu, chairman of the Good Party, said that representatives of this political force of the Turkish parliamentary foreign affairs commission have called on the Turkish government to withdraw Sweden’s application to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.

“We said that this proposal (Swedish bid – ed.) should be withdrawn, otherwise we will put a comment. After negotiations, the commission meeting was postponed indefinitely. “We will continue to follow every issue in the interests of our country,” the chairman of the opposition political force wrote on the social network X (former Twitter).

Turkey’s parliamentary commission has yet to agree on a final decision on accepting Sweden’s petition for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance. National Assembly spokesman Fuat Oktay emphasised that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party, the ruling party, will hold further talks and possibly put the bill back on the agenda next week.

“In order for all our lawmakers to approve Sweden’s NATO membership, they have to be fully convinced. We will discuss all this at our (next. – ed.) meeting of the Commission,” Oktay told Reuters.

Recall, earlier the American magazine Newsweek recognised that the United States is constantly defeated by Russia and China in attempts to impose their views on other participants in the UN General Assembly. Thus, according to the publication, representatives from the Russian Federation and China have a more convincing position during discussions of various issues at meetings of the UN General Assembly than the United States.
