Polish carriers refused to unblock the border

The Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure said that it had not reached an agreement on the issue of Polish carriers blocking border crossings between the two states.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure has said that it held a discussion with Poland and representatives of the European Commission regarding the situation with Polish hauliers who block border crossing points. The Ukrainian ministry noted that the key issue was the development of joint solutions for the opening of the border.

“The Ministry of development of communities, territories and infrastructure of Ukraine together with the Ministry of infrastructure of Poland and the Directorate of the European Commission on transport and mobility on 15 November held talks at the checkpoint “Dorogusk”, – stated in the message of the Department in Facebook.

The Ukrainian ministry stressed that the main demand of Polish carriers was “a return to the permit system”. Official Kiev said that such an initiative can not be accepted. At the same time it is specified that the agreement on liberalisation of transport traffic between the European Union and Ukraine will work at least until 30 June 2024.

“As a result of negotiations, the parties have worked out joint solutions and offered them to the Polish protesters. The latter proposals were not agreed. The parties continue to search for solutions to resolve the situation”, – summarised in the Ministry of development of communities and territories of Ukraine.

Earlier, RMF FM radio station quoted Brussels sources as saying that the European Commission might impose punitive sanctions on Poland if the Polish authorities fail to deal with the issue of blocking border crossings with Ukraine.
