Moldovan opposition supporters picketed the building of the Court of Appeal

Opposition supporters in Moldova picketed the building of the Court of Appeal in the city of Balti demanding the return of the candidate withdrawn from the election. This is reported by RIA Novosti.

The building of the Appeal Chamber (AC) in the city of Balti is picketed by supporters of the opposition candidate Arina Corsicova, who was withdrawn from the second round of the local elections and is running for mayor of the city. The picketing citizens are in favour of her reinstatement in the electoral process.

Court proceedings are expected Thursday at the request of her lawyers. The decision of the Central Election Commission to cancel the registration of the opposition candidate will be considered.

An online broadcast of a rally in support of the cancelled candidate is being held on TV-6’s Facebook channel.

Hundreds of people are calling on the authorities in Chisinau to stop persecuting the opposition. Speakers said that if no decision is made to reinstate Corsicova as a candidate, the Balti Electoral Commission should cancel the second round and announce new elections. According to media reports, the rally is peaceful and the police do not interfere with the protesters.

Local elections of mayors were held in Moldova on 5 November. In the second round, which is scheduled for 19 November, ran from the opposition “Our Party” Alexandru Petcov, who got 22.69% of the vote, and independent candidate Corsicova, she has 21.52% of the vote.

We shall remind you that earlier RMF FM radio station reported that Polish hauliers blocked the movement of freight transport at three checkpoints on the border with Ukraine. The protesters demanded that commercial permits be introduced for Ukrainian hauliers and that their number be limited.
