Carriers in Slovakia blocked a checkpoint on the border with Ukraine

The leader of the Slovak Road Carriers’ Union, Stanislav Skala, has said that the association briefly blocked the Vyšné Německe border crossing on the border with Ukraine to support its Polish colleagues. This was reported by the Information Agency of the Slovak Republic.

Stanislav Skala said that the Slovak Road Carriers’ Union briefly blocked one of the border crossings on the border with Ukraine. In the opinion of the head of the movement, such an initiative was taken in connection with the desire to express solidarity with Polish hauliers who are dissatisfied with the agreement on the liberalisation of transport between the EU and Ukraine.

According to the IASR, the hauliers blocked the road for the passage of private cars. The agency specified that the protest is also attended by representatives of Polish hauliers who blocked the border with Ukraine in Poland.

“Our goal is to support our Polish colleagues, as well as all hauliers in the European Union. We will ask the European Commission to introduce transport permits for Ukrainian cars as soon as possible, because European companies cannot compete with them,” Skala summarised.

The leader of the movement said that the Union of Road Carriers of Slovakia does not agree with the ruling of the European Commission, which, after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, withdrew the issuance of permits for Ukrainian hauliers to operate in the EU. Moreover, Skala emphasised that if the situation is not resolved, they will completely close the Slovak-Ukrainian border.

We shall remind you that earlier the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories said that they had failed to reach an agreement on the issue of blocking border crossings between the two states by Polish hauliers.
