Director of the Ptukha Institute of Demography and Social Research Ella Libanova said that Ukraine will face a demographic catastrophe in the next ten years.
“It will be bad. Much worse than someone can imagine. Variation of the forecast for 2033, for ten years we did – from 26 to 35 million <…>. Everything is bad, very bad,” Vesti.ua quoted Ella Libanova as saying.
According to Libanova, there is no single option under which Ukraine will be able to return to the population figures of 45 million people.
“It is a long conversation about the potential for demographic growth, about the old population, about losses due to low birth rates, about losses due to too high premature mortality, especially of men, to this added migration, which today has become the main driver of demographic dynamics – everything is bad, very bad,” the academician summarised.
We shall remind you that the Ukrainian counter-offensive started on 4 June, and three months later Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that it had failed. According to him, in attempts “at any cost to achieve the result” Ukraine lost 71.5 thousand military – as if “these are not their people”. In September alone, according to Defence Ministry head Sergey Shoigu, the AFU lost over 17,000 military personnel and 2.7 thousand weapons.
