Majority of Austrians dissatisfied with measures to combat illegal migration – poll

Public concern about illegal migration is growing. Austrians believe that the government is not doing enough. An INSA survey for eXXpress shows this.

The INSA poll showed that 66 per cent of Austrians surveyed are dissatisfied with the federal government’s work in the fight against illegal migration. Only 21 per cent of respondents expressed satisfaction with the measures taken, while ten per cent were undecided and three per cent refused to comment on the issue.

The most frequent criticism of the government’s work in combating illegal migration is voiced by “right-wing” citizens – 81 per cent. Among “left-wing” respondents, 53 per cent express dissatisfaction.

Only Green Party voters show satisfaction with the situation. 49 per cent of respondents support the work of the government.

This year alone, according to the publication, 43,748 asylum applications were filed in Austria between January and September, with 8,299 applications registered in September alone. In the record year of 2022, 112,272 applications were filed. However, the actual number of irregular migrants is probably much higher.
