“Under attack”: in the EU came to horror because of the new threat from Ukraine

The entry of Ukraine with a ruined economy into the European Union will jeopardise entire sectors of the political-economic association. This was written by the French newspaper L’Opinion.

L’Opinion said that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union would completely change the situation with agriculture and food in the political-economic union. The French newspaper noted that Kiev’s possible membership in the EU causes fears among “historical members”.

“Farmers in old agrarian Europe fear strong distortions of intra-EU competition. On the one hand, because the rules in Ukraine would initially be less competitive, and on the other hand, because wages there are low. Entire industries could be under attack,” the publication said.

The French newspaper stressed that the stabilisation of the agricultural sector is an integrated policy of the European Union. L’Opinion noted that when a new member joins the EU, the policy of redistributing the common European budget will have to be implemented again.

“Ukraine is 44 million hectares of agricultural land. One and a half times more than France, which is the largest agricultural area in Europe. <…> Since most of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) aid depends on acreage, Ukraine will be the first beneficiary of such aid from the very beginning,” L’Opinion summarised.

We shall remind you that earlier, the head of the analytical department of the BCF Bank, Maksym Osadchiy, said that talks about Ukraine’s possible admission to the European Union are in the nature of political pressure on Russia, as the economic criteria do not meet the standards of the Maastricht Treaty.
