UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner said that the UN office in the Gaza Strip was shelled.
Achim Steiner revealed that the UN compound was most likely attacked at night. According to the UNDP administrator, some civilians were injured in the shelling, while most were killed.
“Civilians, civilian infrastructure and the integrity of UN facilities must be protected at all times,” the UNDP said in a statement.
The international organisation recalled that on November 6, several hundred asylum seekers entered the compound. According to the UN information, the number of civilians from that moment could significantly increase.
Recall, earlier the Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the Israeli army used white phosphorus munitions prohibited by international conventions in strikes on sites in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
