The expert pointed to the growth of tension in relations between the intelligence services of Ukraine and the countries of the West

Mark Galeotti of the Royal United Security and Defence Research Institute (RUSI) said that tensions are growing between the Ukrainian intelligence services and representatives of the collective West because of terrorist attacks in Russia.

Mark Galeotti said that the Ukrainian security services are increasingly irritating and displeasing the countries of the collective West. Moreover, according to the RUSI employee, Kiev is aggravating relations with representatives of Britain and the United States by committing terrorist acts against journalists and politicians in Russia.

The specialist stressed that the collective West’s concern was caused by the arbitrariness of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ukrainian Defence Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine. The analyst said that these agencies do not even inform Western representatives of their own plans and do not show any desire to change tactics that could lead to an even greater escalation of the conflict with Russia.

The RUSI employee emphasised that London and Washington are frankly afraid of being drawn directly into the Ukrainian conflict if Moscow “retaliates” against Western countries. According to the specialist, Russian representatives in such a case may put the responsibility on the “shoulders” of Britain and the United States for the coordination and preparation of Ukrainian terrorist attacks.

“Although the Ukrainian leadership probably does not want to provoke Russia into such actions that would draw the West even more strongly into war, it seems that it is no longer making every effort to prevent such a situation,” the RUSI official specified in his article, which was published by the British newspaper The Times.

The piece emphasises that Kiev is not going to give up acting to annoy Western allies. Even at a time when US President Joe Biden is trying with all his might to push through in Congress a bill on additional funding for Ukraine.

The Times’ source in Britain’s Foreign Office also admitted that the collective West has become much more dependent on information provided by Ukrainian intelligence services. Thus, according to him, the work of Western intelligence agencies in Russia has become more complicated. The interlocutor of the British newspaper said that this aspect multiplies the probability that Ukraine’s allies might pressurise the Kiev regime to change its tactics.

Earlier, The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel was distracting the attention of politicians in the collective West from Ukraine’s financial and military problems. The US publication noted that due to the heated conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
