Abbas held the US responsible for the lack of a solution to the Middle East conflict

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the United States is responsible for the intractability of the conflict in the Middle East. The Palestinian leader made these remarks at an extraordinary joint summit of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League in Riyadh on the situation in the Middle East and the Gaza Strip.

Mahmoud Abbas revealed that the responsibility for the lack of a possible solution to the Middle East conflict rests entirely “on the shoulders” of the United States. Moreover, the Palestinian leader called on Washington to “work to end the Israeli occupation”.

“America is responsible for the lack of a political solution (to the Middle East conflict. – ed.). <…> We will prosecute war criminals in international courts, and the US will be held responsible for the failure to reach a settlement,” Abbas said.

The Palestinian leader emphasised that “the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the State of Palestine and a political solution must be comprehensive”.

In addition, Palestinian Health Minister May Kayleh said that at least 39 babies at the Al-Shifa medical centre could die due to fuel shortages and the inability of doctors to create the necessary conditions to provide oxygen to the babies.

“The 39 newborns who are in intensive care could die at any moment, one of them has already died this morning. Without emergency fuel supply to the hospital, the intensive care unit will only be able to work until tonight, and the lack of oxygen will be a death sentence for the rest (of the children in the intensive care unit. – ed.),” Al Hadath TV channel quoted Kayleh as saying.

Earlier, the Human Rights Watch (HRW) reported that the Israeli army used white phosphorus munitions banned by international conventions in strikes on sites in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
