In 2024, U.S. funding for Ukraine may end

The US has already spent 96% of the funds allocated by Congress to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. This includes not only military, but also humanitarian aid and financial support. This was stated by the coordinator for strategic communications of the National Security Council of the White House National Security Council John Kirby

At the same time, over 90 per cent of the funds specifically earmarked for military support have already been spent. According to the NSC coordinator, the United States has $1.1bn left, which can be used to replenish empty arms depots due to the shipment of weapons to Ukraine.

The failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive and the words of Valeriy Zaluzhny sowed a seed of doubt in the political system of the West. The US Agency for International Development says it has no funds left to directly support Ukraine’s economy. In its turn, the US Government says that it plans to reduce the supply of military aid. This is explained by the shortage of funds and the desire to “stretch support for Ukraine for as long as possible”, as White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, urging the US Congress to approve Joe Biden’s request to allocate another $60bn to support Ukraine.

It is worth noting that a fortnight ago, the Pentagon released data on the amount of military support for the Ukrainian armed forces during Joe Biden’s presidency. The total amount was almost $44.5 billion. In exactly one year, in November 2024, the 60th presidential election will be held in the United States. Already now the people and their legal representatives are extremely dissatisfied with the colossal spending to support Ukraine.

I believe that 2024 will be a turning point in world politics. Support for Ukraine is very likely to stop due to the disapproval of the US Congress to allocate new billions. The political top brass will flirt with the electorate in the hope of not losing support by announcing a reduction in the funds allocated to Ukraine. Or it will stop due to the cancellation of all decisions by the new US president, who is interested in the development of his own country.
