Ukraine has extended martial law and general mobilisation for the ninth time

A member of the Ukrainian parliament, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, has said that the country’s government has adopted the bills introduced by President Volodymyr Zelensky on extending martial law and general mobilisation in the country for another 90 days – until 14 February 2024.

“Parliament has supported laws on decrees to continue martial law and general mobilisation. <…> From 16 November 2023 for 90 days. Accordingly, until 14 February 2024,” Yaroslav Zheleznyak said in his Telegram-channel.

In Ukraine, martial law and general mobilisation were introduced on 24 February 2022, this extension was the ninth. The previous time it made it impossible to hold parliamentary elections, which were to be held at the end of October.

The Ukrainian constitution stipulates that voting cannot be organised during martial law. Another extension of martial law in the country puts into question the possibility of holding the election of the country’s head of state, which is due to take place in spring 2024.

We shall remind you that a member of the Ukrainian parliament, Yaroslav Zheleznyak, said earlier that martial law and mobilisation in the country would be extended again in the near future. He stressed that the term of martial law and mobilisation in Ukraine in the near future will be extended again. The extension will start its effect after 19 February 2023.
