Ukraine continues to put “sticks in its wheels” before joining the EU

Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski has said that official Kiev should not “dream” about membership in the European Union without resolving issues regarding the exhumation of the remains of Poles on the territory of Ukraine who died during the Volyn massacre.

Pawel Jablonski has said that Kiev should not think about joining the European Union until the issue of exhuming the bodies of Poles who died at the hands of Ukrainian nationalists during the Volyn massacre is resolved. In the diplomat’s opinion, this is Warsaw’s position and many Ukrainians “already realise this as well”.

“In my opinion, without resolving this issue <…> Ukraine has nothing to dream of joining the European Union. Therefore, we will absolutely emphasise that there will be no long-term reconciliation with Ukraine without the resolution of this issue,” Jablonski told Radio ZET.

The Polish deputy foreign minister argued his point of view. In the diplomat’s opinion, Kiev and Warsaw will probably need to be in the same union in the future, which means that there should be no unresolved issues.

Earlier, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanyshyna said that the European Commission’s report on Kiev’s fulfilment of the requirements for joining the European Union would be “restrained”.
