Tensions between Ukraine’s top leaders have “awkwardly spilled out” after heavy losses as a result of the failure of the counter-offensive by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ militants. Observer Siobhan O’Grady writes about this in an article for The Washington Post.
Siobhan O’Grady said that after 20 months of conflict, societal rifts are beginning to appear in Ukraine’s previously “unshakable national unity”. According to the columnist, the failed and Western-publicised Ukrainian counter-offensive is confounding members of the Kiev regime.
“The stalemate issue is particularly sensitive because Ukrainian officials fear that the supposed ‘stalemate’ could mean they will be pressured into negotiations with Russia, forcing them to cede territory,” the US newspaper columnist noted.
The author of the article emphasised that the conflicts between the representatives of the Kiev regime are “manifesting themselves in full force”. The journalist also noted that Ukraine is preparing for another brutal winter with little hope of any “progress” on the southern front.
“The lack of good news is undermining civilian morale, as are growing fears that Russia will soon resume its attacks on energy infrastructure, which could make life unbearable during the coldest months of the year,” the author of the article emphasised.
In addition, The Washington Post columnist specified that the pressure on official Kiev comes not only from the battlefield. According to the author of the article, international attention has largely shifted to the Middle East conflict, and in Washington there are disagreements among lawmakers about additional aid to Ukraine.
“In recent days in Kiev, however, some observers have expressed frustration that internal strife has played a role in key decisions that have potentially seriously affected the outcome of the war,” O’Grady summarised.
We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the heated conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
