NATO has announced plans to indefinitely suspend its participation in the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).
The North Atlantic Council said in a released statement.
“As a result of Russia’s decision to withdraw from the treaty, the alliance countries participating in the treaty intend to suspend the application of the CFE Treaty for as long as necessary, in accordance with their right under international norms. This decision is fully supported by all NATO countries,” the document reads.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that at midnight on 7 November, Moscow finally completed the procedure of withdrawal from the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
Later, the UK announced the suspension of participation in the CFE Treaty. There are also indications that the United States intends to suspend participation in the CFE Treaty.
