India’s foreign minister: sanctions have become a convenient tool for developed countries

Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar expressed confidence that imposition of sanctions has become a convenient tool and leverage for developed countries.

He expressed this opinion in an interview with the newspaper Corriere della Sera.

“These sanctions are essentially levers that developed economies have at their disposal based on mechanisms, powers and tools. They use these levers when it suits them,” the Indian minister said.

Western countries impose sanctions when they feel like it and do not approach the UN about the legitimacy of such restrictive measures, Jaishankar emphasised.

He added that there is an impression that the whole world has agreed to the imposition of sanctions, but this is not true.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that attempts to isolate Russia had failed because Moscow favours the formation of a multipolar and fair world order.
