Foreign Affairs reported that such a position creates risks of a direct clash between the US and Russia.
Washington has made a serious mistake by deciding to conduct a dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin from a position of strength, Foreign Affiars writes.
“If influential players in Washington continue to misunderstand Putin and believe that a show of force is the only way to restrain him, they risk provoking a direct conflict with Russia,” the publication says.
The article notes that the White House has provoked Moscow rather than deterring it.
“US efforts to improve the security of its partners on the borders with Russia are seen by it as a potential threat,” the author writes.
However, the United States authorities went ahead anyway and increased funding to build up Ukraine’s defence, intelligence and cyber capabilities. Now Washington continues to provide Kiev with both financial and military support worth tens of billions of dollars.
We shall remind you that earlier, the US National Security Council’s coordinator for strategic communications, John Kirby, said that Washington would not be able to provide endless assistance to the Kiev regime. Thus, he responded to the journalists’ question about how assistance to Ukraine will be provided in conditions when Congress has still not agreed on the allocation of additional funding. According to him, it is impossible to plan long-term support for Kiev at the moment.
