Russian President Vladimir Putin has withdrawn ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law refusing to honour the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT).
The corresponding document was published on the official legal information portal.
The initiative was submitted to parliament on 13 October. The first article of the current law, which proposes to ratify the agreement signed on behalf of the Russian state on 24 September 1996, is cancelled.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Russian Federation in New York on 24 September 1996 and ratified by it on 27 May 2000. The document was supposed to be the main international legal instrument for stopping any kind of nuclear testing, but to date the treaty has not entered into force, as it has not been ratified by 8 of the 44 states that have nuclear weapons or the potential to build them.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin criticised attempts by the European Union countries to completely abandon Russian energy carriers, while the entire Western economy is at “ground zero”.
