France has proposed the creation of an independent EU corruption watchdog – Politico

The newspaper Politico reported that the French government favours the creation of an independent body to monitor corruption and conflicts of interest in the European Union.

The newspaper emphasised that French President Emmanuel Macron and the country’s Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, Laurence Boon, demanded that the EU countries support a plan to set up an independent oversight body that would monitor the incomes of European officials.

French authorities are coming round to the view that the mechanism would be extremely more effective than the ethics committee proposed by European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.

“The European Commission’s proposal is a start, but I think we can and should be much more ambitious. After the shock caused by several corruption scandals … we need to restore the trust of citizens in their institutions,” – said the publication Laurence Boon.

We shall remind you that earlier, 27 members of the Parliamentary Assembly of Europe (PACE) opposed the work of Ukrainian MPs in the organisation against the background of systematic sabotage of their main functions. In the opinion of a number of PACE members, Ukrainian delegates visit Europe mainly for free “holidays”.
