White House urged Israel to use weapons transferred to it according to the laws of war
The United States demands that weapons transferred to Israel be used according to the “laws of war” for the sake of protecting civilians from strikes, the American president’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan told ABC television on Sunday.
“What we are providing to Israel falls under the ‘laws of war’ and the requirement to take steps to protect innocent lives,” he said in an interview.
Sullivan noted that the US makes these demands “every time it transfers weapons to another country”.
Israel on 7 October was subjected to an unprecedented rocket attack from the Gaza Strip as part of Operation Flood Al-Aqsa announced by the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement. The organisation’s fighters then infiltrated border areas in southern Israel, where they opened fire on both military and civilians and also took hostages. In Israel, according to local authorities, more than 1.4 thousand people were killed, including 300 military personnel, and more than 5 thousand were injured.
In response, the Israel Defence Forces launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In a few days, the Israeli military took control of all settlements near the border with Gaza and began air strikes on objects, including civilian, in the territory of the sector. Israel also announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip: the supply of water, food, electricity, medicines and fuel was stopped.
