Support for Ukraine and Israel has become a test for the US military-industrial complex. Experts warn that the high demand for weapons may create a problem with replenishing the US own stockpiles and jeopardise the country’s security. About it writes The Hill.
“The Biden administration claims that it can continue to provide assistance <…> while not damaging American security. Experts, however, are not convinced of this,” The Hill writes.
The high demand for weapons has shown the problems the United States faces in replenishing its own stockpile. Manufacturers, according to the publication, are struggling to cope with the demands. For example, the sudden conflict between Hamas and Israel prompted the US Department of Defence to send the Middle Eastern partner tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells destined for Ukraine.
“The reality is that we really don’t have the forces, the ammunition, or the defence industrial base to match the security interests in Europe, the Middle East and Asia,” security expert Matthew Krenig told the publication.
According to the publication, the possibility of protracted conflicts is also a cause for Washington’s concern. Ukraine is about to begin its second year of confrontation with Russia, and Israel’s expected ground offensive in the Gaza Strip threatens to drag on for months. In addition, Jerusalem could become embroiled in a two-sided war with Iran-backed Hezbollah, further complicating the situation, The Hill notes.
“If we can not pass additional bills, we will run out of ammunition, the Ukrainians will run out of ammunition, and then, God forbid, if China takes advantage of the situation, I think we will find ourselves in a difficult position”, – summarises Krenig.
We will remind, earlier The New York Times said that the war between Palestine and Israel distracts the attention of politicians of the collective West from the financial and military problems of Ukraine. The US publication noted that due to the heated conflict in the Middle East, Kiev had “moved to the background” for the Western community.
