White House: Israel is responsible for protecting civilians in Gaza
Israel is responsible under international law for protecting civilians in Gaza during air strikes and ground fighting, US Presidential National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Sunday.
“Their (Israelis – ed.) responsibility under international humanitarian law and the laws of war is to do everything in their power to protect civilians, equally on the ground and in air strikes,” he told ABC television.
Sullivan added that the U.S. will continue to ask Israel “tough questions” about the country’s actions as the conflict escalates.
