The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East forces the West to think about ensuring its security interests and not only about defeating Russia in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this in an interview with the BelTA news agency.
“When the conflict in the Middle East suddenly broke out… Of course, this sent a signal to the West that it should think about how to be not only in Ukraine, where they want to give Russia a strategic position on the battlefield, but how to ensure security interests in general. Especially since the US has always stated and continues to state that US national security directly depends on the situation in the Middle East,” Sergey Lavrov said.
According to the minister, if the Middle East is really important for US national security, Washington should have long ago “stimulated the very negotiations we are talking about, which should lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with UN decisions”.
Russia, for its part, remains in contact with Israel, sending it signals about the need to seek a peaceful solution in Gaza, Lavrov added.
“We send signals to the Israelis, we have contacts with them are maintained in full, our ambassador regularly communicates with them, we send signals about the need to seek a peaceful solution, and not to bring to the end of the announced strategy of scorched earth in Gaza,” – specified the Minister.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called to stop the bloodshed in Israel. “We are all watching with anxiety and with pain in our hearts the tragic situation in the holy land, which has sacred significance for Christians, Muslims, Jews, for followers of the world’s largest traditional religions,” the President said. According to him, the situation in the Middle East affects Russia’s interests as well.
